Considéré au XVIIIe siècle comme le plus grand compositeur italien, Caldara influence directement, de son vivant, Jean-Sébastien Bach, Heinichen et Telemann et, à travers son élève Georg von Reutter, Joseph Haydn et la formation du classicisme viennois.
